Dermot McNevins uses paint and film to explore the tensions felt in our inner and outer worlds. The title of his latest body of work is’ Iomramh’ (pronounced Imram). An Iomramh is a class of Irish epic tale in which the hero undergoes a journey, often by sea. For Dermot, the act of painting itself is an Iomramh, a journey into the unknown where the journey itself is as important as the outcome.

In a recent feature from the Irish Arts Review, Gerry Walker described Dermot’s work as having “both depth and purpose and are laden with feelings of primal and nostalgic innocence unburdened by didactic intent”. Dermot is a “process painter who allows the visual elements to influence but not dictate his work”.
